Are you trying to find a therapist who understands?
The hard truth is: coming out only gets you so far.
Next comes actually living life.
Relationships are complicated, mental health issues are frustrating, anxiety and depression can feel insurmountable, and dealing with non-accepting family seems impossible. The feelings of having a good life—feelings of satisfaction, confidence, and fulfillment—are hard to find.
Many LGBTQ+ people have a difficult time finding a place to turn when life goes wrong, leaving us wondering “is there something wrong with me?”
That’s where therapy can help. I’m a queer therapist who understands the struggles of being queer and the unique support LGBTQ+ folks deserve. Together, let’s find your confidence so you can start living the life you want.
About Matthias Roberts, MA, LMHCA, He/Him
I grew up in the churches and cornfields of Iowa. When I was 11, I figured out I was gay and spent the next thirteen years of my life trying to come to terms with my sexuality and what people around me taught. These were years of shame, fear, bargaining with God, and struggle. My own therapist helped me see that I can live a happy, fulfilling life. Now, I help others discover the same.
I did my training at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology and hold an MA in Theology and Culture and an MA in Counseling Psychology.
Additionally, I have extensive post-graduate training in working with survivors of abuse through trauma-focused narrative therapy. My first book Beyond Shame: Creating a Healthy Sex Life on Your Own Terms released on Fortress Press in early 2020.
I believe that transformation happens through relationship and the therapy relationship is an extraordinary container for transformation.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in the state of Washington (#MC60884578).

Rates & Insurance

Individual Sessions (50 minutes) – $150
I do not currently offer couples counseling
My practice is private pay.
Fees can be paid by either cash, check, credit, or HSA. Due to limited space available and restrictions of services, I do not bill insurance. However, upon request a receipt of payment and services is available in order for you to submit for Out of Network benefits.
Please note that if you wish to pursue reimbursement, insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis. I will speak with you and provide psychoeducation around this topic. You are responsible for interacting with your insurance providers and for therapy payments.
As with any insurance questions, it is a good idea to call your insurance company directly to verify coverage before receiving services. Some helpful questions to ask include:
What is the reimbursement rate for an out-of-network provider? Will you reimburse for care provided by a therapist with an associate license (eg, LMHCA)?
Is approval required from my primary care physician for me to pursue and be reimbursed for mental health services?
How many outpatient mental health sessions are covered per year?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
